Community Garden Assistance

Growing Healthier Communities

Grow food, build community

Gardening is an easy way to live more sustainably and Makomas Foundation Community Garden Assistance program is a great way to grow your own food – and new friendships.

The program is helping people transform vacant lots into productive community.

Community gardens are managed, maintained and owned by neighborhood residents and organizations. Community gardeners cultivate vegetable gardens, care for community – managed the areas and beautify their neighborhoods with flowers and trees. The gardens provide many benefits: reduced crime rates, improved mental and physical health, and a greater sense of community.

Program Support

We provide many forms of ongoing support to groups who want to start a community garden. It also provides landscape design, land acquisition assistance, leadership development, community organization, soil amendments and tilling, soil fertility management, community building events, training and consulting, construction oversight, seeds and plants, educational materials and workshops, and lots of encouragement.

Participate

We are always looking for people to join existing community gardens or start new ones. If you would like to get involved in your neighborhood and/or connect with an existing garden, email us at community@makomasfoundation.org.

Volunteer

You can help us grow too! We always have needs for individuals and groups to support our gardens, events and programs. There are lots of different ways you could be helpful! If you are interested in volunteering, email us.
